Women in Business
Yesterday morning the San Antonio Greater Chamber's Women's Opportunity Week (WOW) culminated with a breakfast event at Sunset Station and a chance to hear four of the six recognized women professionals discuss tips on leadership and how they made it to the top in business. WOW was founded by Brenda Vickery Johnson and promises to be even bigger and better in 2010. At Baptist we have many fantastic women in leadership roles including Karen Stiefel, PhD, Chief Learning Officer and Dean of the Baptist Health System School of Health Professions and Kay Harrell, PhD, Director of the Baptist Health System fitness and physical rehab center, HealthLink.

Optimism is High in Stone Oak
Today I attended my first Stone Oak Optimist Club meeting after learning about the group from club President, Gina Groomer. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at North Central Baptist Hospital in the education room located in the Atrium. This was my first involvement with the club and in addition to learning about face value characteristics from this month's speaker Joanna Antongiovanni I learned what the Optimist Creed is; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world. The next meeting takes place on April 1st, 2009 at 08.45am.

Make Your Heart a Priority
Last month (February) in celebration of Heart Health Awareness Month we partnered up with the City of San Antonio to provide educational seminars to city workers on heart health and blood pressure. A big thank you to Dr. Amy Gutierrez and Dr. Ayham Shneker for their involvement and time in giving these excellent and informative presentations.

Saving Seconds, Saving Lives
Last Wednesday Baptist held a special event for patients at the San Antonio Plaza Club called "Heart Alert Celebration - Saving Seconds, Saving Lives."
In 2005, Baptist Health System became the first system in San Antonio to implement the groundbreaking “Heart Alert” program that in many cases gets heart attack patients into the cath lab for life-saving treatment in under an hour. This time-frame is well under the national standard of 90 minutes – ultimately saving precious time in diagnosing and treating patients suffering a heart attack.
